Should you run when you are ill? Woke up this morning feeling a bit rough and nearly decided to call in sick. After 15 minutes extra time in bed, I finally managed to drag myself into the shower and then downstairs for breakfast and a strong black coffee. By the time I needed to leave, […]
5 Week Training Plan Please post comments if you think I should change anything or if anything is unclear.
Photo Gallery Sorry they’re a bit blurry – I was shooting through a waterproof case that steamed up half way through. Early(ish) Morning Start At 8:00 the alarm sounded to tell me to leave my semi-hangover in bed and get up to meet Rob down at the Plaza in our village, Santolaya de Cabranes. I […]
Hell’s Ridge Planned Route Can’t wait for tomorrow’s trip up into the mountains behind Infiesto! Rob and I are planning on running up to the Sierra del Infierno (Hell’s Ridge) which despite it’s ominous name looks like a great run. The Route The route starts at a car park in a spot used by locals for […]
Everything going well so far, the since starting the training plan on Monday. Today’s hill session felt particularly good – A nice hilly route, going hard up, fast down and easy on the flat, letting my heart rate get back down to 130 bpm. Maxed out at 178 bpm on the steepest bit! Calves feeling […]
Good to be back in Asturias again! These are some photos of my first proper training run today which was a 40 minute slow (7min 45sec/km average pace) run over 5.33 km and 227m of climb, in the hills and woods behind Santolaya de Cabranes. I didn’t really push it too hard as I’m still […]
Great run today up to Knowl Hill with Podge and his friend Pem. We all took it fairly easy due to overdoing it on red wine the night before! The 10 km route took us 1 hour 40 minutes, with lots of stops to get the tricky navigation right. We followed the Knowl Hill Fell race, […]
Training so far has been pretty half-hearted. Drinking too much booze and eating high calorie, stodgy food has left me feeling fat, slow and unhealthy. All change tomorrow (1st January 2013), though, with a trot up Cadair Idris in North Wales.
2013 Training Focus Areas Tight Calves One of my big limiting factors this year, has been my calves. I had a 2 month or so period where I couldn’t run for more than 25 minutes without being pulled up short with pulled/cramping calf muscles. After investigation, the causes appear to have been: A lack of […]
I bought a pair of these shoes in May 2012 and have been using them for longer runs (more than 40 minutes) and I think they are great. The uppers consist of super lightweight mesh, the midsole material is a BioMoGo, DNA mix with a 4mm rise, that gives a very minimalist feel, which I personally […]
Welcome to my training blog, I’m planning on recording all the training I do in 2013, with the aim of keeping a record, mainly for my own purposes, but also hoping it might be of interest to other trail runners. I am by no means a talented runner – my best result in the two […]
