Oh Shit!
Oh Shit!

The Travesera Integral de Los Picos de Europa If you live in Northern Spain and you run in the mountains, the Travesera Integral de Los Picos de Europa should definitely be on your bucket list. The race is 74 kilometres (46 miles) and 6,560 metres (21,522 feet) of height gain, starting in Covadonga, in the West, […]

Gobiendes to Pienzu

Planned training run for Sunday, 22nd March, 2015 Distance:  16.6 kilometres    Height Gain:  1246 metres If anyone is feeling perky, I’m toying with the possibility of doing the steep climb up to the Sueve twice!

Apathy and Lack of Motivation (15.3.2015)
Apathy and Lack of Motivation (15.3.2015)

Apathy and Lack of Motivation What’s going on?! Don’t know what’s up with my training the last couple of weeks.  Following the 27 Kangas Mountain race, I was on a real high for 3 days and then, ever since, I’ve really struggled to get motivated.  Even with another 30 km race planned on the 5th […]

27 Kangas Mountain Race Report
27 Kangas Mountain Race Report

The 27 Kangas Mountain Race Report Early Start I was pretty tired when the alarm went off at 7 am, on a drizzly Saturday 28th February.  Annoyingly I had a bit of an annoying headache through the night and felt completely crap and definitely not ready to run 30 kilometres of hard mountain! After a […]

Cangas de Onis
Cangas de Onis

Cangas de Onis Again The Same Again (But Harder!) I repeated long loop of the 27 Kangas Mountain but with a few changes… I went with the Paul and Juan the super athletes I did the whole of the route without diversions We ran it a lot faster I was still knackered from Sunday I […]

La Olla de San Vicente
La Olla de San Vicente

27 Kangas Mountain Training The Big Loop I drove to Cangas de Onis on a very wet and blustery Sunday afternoon, with the plan of running the big loop of the 27 Kangas Mountain route, in preparation for the race on the 28th February.  I think I left it a little late (I arrived at […]

Training Update (8.2.2015)
Training Update (8.2.2015)

Training Update (8th February, 2015) Last Weekend Last weekend I ran 21 km from home up to Peña Cabrera twice and bit, stopping off at the aid station (our house in Santolaya) for top-ups of water and to pick up waterproofs. A Lazy Week The rest of the week, I felt very lazy and didn’t […]

Sunday 8th February Training Run
Sunday 8th February Training Run

Club Training Run – 8th February, 2015 This week’s Sunday training run is looking like a difficult one to plan.  The main problem is the amount of snow that’s fallen this week, which will make anything above 800 metres a little complicated. Route Options (Got to be 25 km +!) Fuensanta to the top of […]

La Pesanca Plus
La Pesanca Plus

Training Update (27.1.2015) Last week’s training went really well.  I felt really good running twice a day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and apart from a little bit of tightness in my calves on Thursday, which had disappeared by Friday, no aches at all! Sunday Long Run The planned 20 kilometre long-run, with Rob and […]

27 Kangas Mountain Route
27 Kangas Mountain Route

This is a GPX track of the official (I think) route for the 27 Kangas Mountain. Why they call it the 27 Kangas Mountain, when it’s more like 30 kilometres, I don’t know.  Must have changed the route over the years.

La Pesanca
La Pesanca

This week’s 15 km long-run was hard and I’m suffering today.  Possibly I might have over estimated my fitness. That said it was a great run. Flops the faithful hound loved it when we got up into the snow. [Show as slideshow] My phone kept on restarting for some reason.  This means I’ve only got the […]

Fuensanta Run
Fuensanta Run

Fuensanta10 Km Training Run Just got back from the first training run of the year, which was just slightly under, the planned 10 kilometres. The Foces del Rio Pendon footpath is still one of my favourites with some good steep climbs and a fairly technical decent. Felt very slow and overweight on the hills but apart […]

Xmas Waistline
Xmas Waistline

Christmas Excess! Weigh-in I’ve  just weighted myself for the first time in 2015 and, with a hefty weigh-in of 82 Kg (12 stone 13 pounds), you can see the excess food and particularly the booze, has had a big effect on my waistline. The Plan In an attempt to battle the bulge and get back to […]

Kangas Mountain 2015

The 27 Kangas Mountain Trail Run In an attempt to kick-start my trail and mountain running year, I’ve just signed up for this race on the 28th February, 2015. This means I’ve got 52 days or 7 weeks 3 days  to get ready.  Should be enough I think.

Surfing!
Surfing!

Bitten by the Surfing Bug What started as a bit of cross-training for running, seems to be turning into a bit of an obsession.  I’ve been going at least 3 times a week and I’m loving every minute of it. I’m also watching a load of surfing videos and constantly reading surf magazine and books. […]

Back in Action
Back in Action

Back in Action Training is going well again.  I’ve found out a lot recently about training techniques and I feel that this time I should make a lot more improvements than before and hopefully avoid any over-training. I’ve also decided that pre-flu, I was getting more than a little obsessed with training and need to have […]

Week 7 Update (18.2.2013)
Week 7 Update (18.2.2013)

What a terrible week of training that was! Did a Wednesday run with Rob and a little run on Thursday but still completely pathetic as far as training goes. This week however, it’s back on schedule for the first race in April – The Subisomas.  The race is just over 13 km and 1200 metres […]

Week 6 Update (13.2.2013)
Week 6 Update (13.2.2013)

Training Progress After going for an ECG on Monday and getting the expected all clear, I’m looking forward to getting going again with my training.  I think the whole thing was a case of too much too soon after having been ill, maxing out my heart rate and then me thinking I was going to […]

Week 3 Update (28.1.2013)
Week 3 Update (28.1.2013)

Went for my first run yesterday, after a week of being completely wiped out by the flu. It was  hard! Especially with my lungs and sinuses being full of gunk. I do feel a lot better today though and I think I’m going restart my 5 week training plan and give it another go from […]

Week 2 Training Update (20.1.2013)
Week 2 Training Update (20.1.2013)

Attack of the Dreaded Lurgy Everything was going well with training – I was gradually losing weight and starting to feel my fitness improving and then disaster struck in the form of a nasty flu type bug, that started to effect me on Friday. I stupidly still went out for the traditional beers after work […]
